Amazing night of pure adrenaline served up right from dear friends Svetlanas fronted by the beautiful, short fused firecracker Olga Svetlana! Exiled from Russia for being too politically outspoken and now residing in Italy. One could do jail time in Russia for owning their music! These are dear friends and we always make their visits to Los Angeles as memorable as possible! This show was brutal! Band was joined on stage by two legendary punk rock bassists - Merle Allin (GG's Allin's brother) and Nick Oliveri from Mondo Generator, Kyuss, Masters of Reality, The Dwarves and Queens of the Stone Age (Holy hell what a resume')!

FIVE HEADED COBRA - ROCK N ROLL IS DEAD! 10/28/16

Local L.A. Supergroup made up of so many talented band members! Collectively, these guys are + have been band members of The Bangkok Five, The Misfits, Hillbilly Herald, Faster Pussycat, Unwritten Law and Breaking Arrows. Band leader Nik Frost designed each members persona + wardrobe for the shoot and here's what we came up with! Shot here at my home studio! Looking pretty dope Nik!

SUICIDE SILENCE ALBUM COVER SHOOT FOR NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS 10/25/16

Great band, great shoot. I love these guys and we achieved an epic library of kick ass shots for their new self titled album. Always great to run into any of these band members backstage around the Los Angeles area. They signed a Fender guitar for me after the shoot which I proudly display on the 2nd floor!

What can I say other than 2016's expedition to the "Sharkiest" waters in the world proved to be the BEST white shark experience I've ever had out of my prior 15 trips to Guadalupe Island and Australia! I'd love to give huge THANKS to my loyal group of annual shark divers, Great White Adventures and the amazing crew of the Solmar V live aboard luxury vessel - this is definitely a winning combination! Our trip to Mexico's Isla Guadalupe was five days long and the action never ended! We had some of the best white sharks I'd ever had in front of my lens. They were closer than ever this year and never let up chasing our tuna baits past the cages, like a dog chasing his ball. There is nothing I've ever seen in my life that rivals this amazing trip for pure adrenalaine and beauty! This is such an amazing animal to interact with and observe in it's natural habitat. Guadalupe Island is so beautiful, volcanic and hosts a huge sea lion population. In all the days we spend diving, you will never see any other species of shark, they are the protectors of this magical place and I'd advise any of you who've been wanting to do this to contact me sooner than later, regarding upcoming trips. If I had a dollar for everytime someone says "Next Year I'm in!" but never shows up at the plate, I'd be a rich man. This is truly life changing shit and can only be respected for it's majesty and strength! This year I took my new Nikon D810 for top water photos and stayed loyal to my Nikon D700 for underwater, since all my camera housings and gear are made for that camera. Next year I might change it up. The megapixels are SO huge on the new D810 that I had to abort my Aperature program and learn Lightroom, Aperature couldn't digest the size of the files. Anyhow, for the first time playing in Lightroom the photos are fairly close to where I like them, I could use a few tutorials on the program. KHDK SCUZZ PEDAL SHOOT WITH DAVE CATCHING IN THE DESERT! 4/11/16

 

Had a great time at Dave Catching's studio in Joshua Tree last week filming him with his new favorite pedal made by KHDK called the "Scuzz" pedal. Shot the print campaign as well as a fun commercial of him giving the pedal a demo! Dave is someone I have known for over 25 years, as guitarist for the Earthlings, Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal! Such a great guy and his recording studio has become quite a hard place to book time into due to such a busy schedule! Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees dropped by to pay his respects too! GREAT DAY!

SEPTEMBER MOURNING ALBUM ARTWORK SHOOT FOR SUMERIAN RECORDS. BEAUTIFULLY VAMPY! 4/2/16

Long time friend + dark rocker Emily Lazar and I finally had the opportunity to collaborate and shoot her amazing band September Mourning for their new album artwork. We shot the whole day in my studio just against black with an arsenal of my props to pose on and hold. Smoke machine was in full effect! They are on Sumerian Records, which is just down the street. Shots came out deliciously dark! A graphic novel based on her character will soon be released! GO EMILY!!!

KARR PRODUCTION DESIGNS NEW AD CAMPAIGN "VANQUISHED FOES" FOR TURTLE BEACH CLIENT + IGNITED LLC ADVERTISING 3/30/16

I was asked to Production Design the new commercial for Turtle Beach (Gaming Headwear). The campaign is called "Vanquished Foes". The Ad Agency was Ignited LLC out of Los Angeles and Produced by Arthur Gorson. It was beautifully lit and a very humorous spot! We basically created an A.A. type meeting for a roomful of gaming villains who had been defeated by gaming players wearing the new Turtle Beach head sets, which are so advance you can hear every twig or leaf crunch when an enemy approaches. I had a blast on this campaign, have a look!

ELECTRIFYING PHOTO SHOOT WITH L.A. BAND ZANO 3/13/16

Had a great session with Los Angeles rock band ZANO on March 13th. Long day with 6-8 various setups, eventually ending up back at my studio to do some time exposures under cover of the night in the blacked out studio. I hadn't don't this "painting with light" technique since just leaving Art Center College in the early '90's so it was alot of fun remembering all the technical data and giving the band something very unique to stand out! It was also heart wrenching shooting around the demolition of the cities most famous bridge ever - The 6th Street Bridge. It was a tangles bunch of cement and re-bar for as long as the eye could see.

Las Vegas Rocks Fashion!

I'll be the official photographer Monday night at "Las Vegas Rocks" a Susan Stein (Palm Springs Life Magazine) runway fashion show poolside at the SLS hotel, shooting the latest designs from ASTRELLA MUSICAL T-s, MICHAEL COSTELLO, DR MARTENS, BELLA DAHL, BAND OF GYPSIES, ROMEO + JULIET COUTURE and ICJUK! Will be a great event with an all star band featuring members of Pearl Jam, Jane's Addiction, Buckcherry, Thelonious Monster, Parliament, Korn, Cypress Hill and Candlebox! How's that for a lineup???

15th Anniversary of Iron Maiden's "Brave New World"

TODAY marks the 15 year anniversary release date of IRON MAIDEN's "BRAVE NEW WORLD". I had the pleasure of meeting my hero's and shooting all their album artwork for this release, soon followed up by Directing "THE WICKERMAN" music video and Directing the massive 18 camera shoot for "ROCK IN RIO!" Dreams do come true and this was one of my most memorable moments of my life! Grammy nomination followed! Congrats Rod Smallwood, Bruce Dickenson, Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Nicko McBrain, Jannick Gers + Lil 'ol Me!!!

Sheri Bodell 2015 Fall Line Catalog Shoot = SEXY!

Amazing designer and friend Sheri Bodell came to me wanting to take her new fashion line to a darker and sexier place than ever before. It was a very long day, we shot something like 90 different dresses and knocked it out of the park! I shot ALONE without a photo assistant on the bottom floor of my house against a smokey grey seamless! It's amazing how a little latex and garter belts with the right accessories can evoke such sexy imagery, having two amazing models helps alot too! Paris comes to Los Angeles!

I received a random social media message from Paris that a band called BLACKRAIN was coming to Los Angeles to record their new album "Released" in Laurel Canyon with a notable producer. They had been told by a common friend of ours in France to contact me regarding shooting their album cover and publicity photos. We immediately hit it off at my house upon our first meeting and met a second time to discuss the shoot and agreed on shooting Swan (the singer) in freshly released handcuffs. Our shoot day was mainly shot outdoors and lit with Profoto strobe system. The amazing Tas Limur was my assistant that day. We managed to knock out about 7 or 8 exterior locations and then return to the studio to grab a shot against white and then capture the cover shot of Swan in cuffs for the CD cover. Great shoot, great guys and I wish them much success with their new project and many more to follow!
